Basketball Game Preview: West Campus Warriors vs. Foothill Mustangs

Two dominant guards in Zach Villanueva and Tomari Harris are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The West Campus Warriors will square off against the Foothill Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

If West Campus beats Foothill with 73 points on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. West Campus breezed by Florin to the tune of 73-27 on Friday. That looming 73-27 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

West Campus' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Villanueva, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine assists, and Edmund Michalski, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Michalski's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Tyson Jiang was another key player, going 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points.

West Campus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Foothill took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 72-35 win over Valley. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while the Vikings are ranked 1340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Foothill's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.3 points. As for West Campus, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

West Campus couldn't quite finish off Foothill when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 58-55. Can West Campus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
