Softball Game Preview: Toll Gate Titans vs. Barrington Eagles

The Toll Gate Titans will take on the Barrington Eagles on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Toll Gate is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Ponaganset, who was ranked 19th at the time (Toll Gate was ranked 17th). The Titans narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Chieftains 2-1.

Meanwhile, Barrington never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over South Kingstown. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Audrey Paxton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Paxton was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Maya Etheridge and Grace Fontaine did most of the damage at the plate: Etheridge went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Fontaine went 2-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Fontaine a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Peluso, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Barrington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Toll Gate back to even at 7-7. As for Barrington, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Toll Gate came out on top in a nail-biter against Barrington in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, sneaking past 9-7. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
