Point Loma is 1-8 against Cathedral Catholic since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Pointers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dons at 5:25 p.m. The last four games Point Loma has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Point Loma's tournament run continued when they took on Eastlake on Saturday. The Pointers wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Annika Isaacson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Nanako Schroth, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Cathedral Catholic made easy work of Otay Ranch on Thursday and carried off an 8-1 win.
Mimi Botticelli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Ellie Davis was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Sina Talataina, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Cathedral Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Point Loma, their loss dropped their record down to 15-3-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Point Loma hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Cathedral Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Point Loma was able to grind out a solid win over Cathedral Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, winning 11-6. Will the Pointers repeat their success, or do the Dons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
