It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mitchell ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Avery County Vikings, sneaking past 8-7. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mountaineers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Brianna Nutter spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kylee Miller, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Allie McClellan was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mitchell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Mitchell's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Avery County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Mitchell will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
