Softball Game Preview: Montclair Cavaliers vs. Don Lugo Conquistadores

For the second straight game, Montclair will face off against Don Lugo. The Cavaliers will face off against the Conquistadores at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Montclair is headed into the match having just suffered their closest defeat since February 19th on Wednesday. They fell just short of Don Lugo by a score of 5-3. The loss continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their meetings with the Conquistadores: they've now lost seven in a row.

Makayla Sosa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Montclair saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mya Ruiz, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Alina Figueroa was another, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.

Don Lugo's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Montclair, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster.
