Softball Recap: Monroe Takes a Loss

Monroe had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-9 to make it six. They lost 21-3 to the Sylmar Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-5 back in April.

As for Sylmar, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-7. Considering they have won ten matchups by more than ten runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Sylmar's part, the team relied heavily on Maya Salceda, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and six RBI. The dominant performance also gave Salceda a new career-high in runs (four). Katherine Godoy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.

Looking ahead, Monroe will host Van Nuys at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season. As for Sylmar, they will take on North Hollywood at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
