Soccer Game Preview: Mercy vs. Skutt Catholic

Mercy hasn't had much luck against Skutt Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Monarchs will welcome the SkyHawks at 4:15 p.m. Mercy will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Mercy barely beat Roncalli Catholic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Monarchs' defense stepped up to hand the Crimson Pride a 5-0 shutout on Saturday. Fans of Mercy have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 3+ goals.

They hit Roncalli Catholic with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Melina Nelson (3), Nyla Kaldenberg, and Audrey Bush.

Meanwhile, Skutt Catholic faced Kearney in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The SkyHawks took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bearcats. Having soared to a lofty six goals in the game before, Skutt Catholic's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Mercy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matches. As for Skutt Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
