Baseball Game Preview: Hersey Huskies vs. Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones

The Hersey Huskies will venture away from home to take on the Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are still undefeated (Hersey has three wins , while Sacred Heart-Griffin has six dating back to last season).

On Wednesday, Hersey got the win against Quincy Notre Dame by a conclusive 10-2.

Hersey got a great performance from Jack Goergen as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those two earned runs gave Goergen a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Chuck Meister was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Diego Garcia was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Hersey kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Sacred Heart-Griffin sidestepped Champaign Central for a 6-5 victory. The six-run effort marked the Cyclones' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Hersey pushed their record up to 4-0-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, their record now sits at 6-0.

Hersey suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Sacred Heart-Griffin in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Can Hersey avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
