Basketball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

Athens has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 54-47 to the Muscle Shoals Trojans on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 65-49 two weeks ago.

Athens' loss dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Muscle Shoals, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Athens and Muscle Shoals should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. Athens (ranked 52nd) will meet St. John Paul II (ranked 421st) at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Muscle Shoals will face off against Arab at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 119 places (40 vs. 159).
