Baseball Recap: Murphy Comes Up Short

Murphy had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-14 to make it five. They lost 17-1 to the Blount Leopards. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Leopards this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-2 on Tuesday.

As for Blount, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won seven contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

For Blount's part, Josiah Thomas was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Thomas was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Blount got a massive performance out of Joseph Bonner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Zine, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Murphy and Blount will both be playing Pleasant Grove the next time they take the field. The Leopards will head out to face the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Panthers will play them later in the day, at 6:30 p.m.
