Recap: Poplarville Hornets vs. Columbia Wildcats

The Poplarville Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a rough 43-22 defeat at the hands of Columbia. While losing is never fun, Poplarville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Columbia is ranked 77th).

Aniriah Galloway was Poplarville's leading scorer, having posted five points.

Jakira Brown continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Columbia, scoring 17 points. Brown is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Indea Pounds, who scored eight points.

Poplarville has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Columbia, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.

Poplarville will head out on the road to take on Pass Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pass Christian will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Columbia, they will be playing at home against Lawrence County at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lawrence County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
