After flying high against Montclair last Friday, Canyon Springs came back down to earth. The Cougars took a 40-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Heritage Patriots on Thursday. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Canyon Springs lost, don't look at Andre Larry. Despite the final result, he rushed for 185 yards and three scores on only 13 carries.

Even if they lost, Canyon Springs' defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Howard Smith Jr., David Garza, and Joshua Leyva, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Hayden Hill continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Heritage, rushing for 268 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 65 receiving yards. With that strong performance, Hill is now averaging an impressive 106 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Elijah Sanchez, who threw for 262 yards on 14 of 25 attempts.

Having lost for the first time this season, Canyon Springs fell to 5-1. As for Heritage, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
