Basketball Recap: Westview Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Westview can now relate to. They fell 45-37 to the Prairie Heights Panthers on Tuesday. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 40-35.

Despite the defeat, Westview saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Olivia Bontrager went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bontrager has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Janissa Lehman, who posted four points and eight boards.

Prairie Heights' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emily McCrea led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. McCrea is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Certain, who went 7 for 10 on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Westview has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Prairie Heights, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-16 record.

Westview does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Prairie Heights, they will face off against Churubusco at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Prairie Heights is facing Churubusco at the right time seeing as Churubusco is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
