Basketball Recap: Katella Skates Past Avalon with Ease

The Katella Knights blew past the Avalon Lancers, posting a 56-26 win.

Katella was led to victory by Michael Montejo and Joseph Damian. Montejo dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds, while Damian went 7-for-12 en route to 16 points. What's more, Montejo also posted an 80% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in November of 2024. Zadot Reyes was another key player, putting up four points along with six boards and five steals.

Katella was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Avalon only posted seven.

When it comes to explaining why Avalon lost on Monday, don't look at Erick Madriz. Despite the final result, he shot 60% from the field on his way to 14 points and three blocks. Brandon Tejeda also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.

Katella's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Avalon, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Katella has already played their next contest, a 61-39 win against Westminster on the 8th. As for Avalon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-36 loss against Samueli Academy on the 7th.
