Basketball Recap: Katella Skates Past Avalon with Ease

Katella was led to victory by Michael Montejo and Joseph Damian. Montejo dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds, while Damian went 7-for-12 on his way to 16 points. Montejo also grabbed eight steals, which is notable because the Knights are 4-1 when he posts at least five steals, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zadot Reyes, who posted four points along with six boards and five steals.

Katella smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Katella's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. As for Avalon, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Katella will face off against Westminster at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 67.38 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Avalon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-36 loss against Samueli Academy on the 7th.
