Basketball Recap: Monticello Takes a Loss

Monticello lost against Pontiac back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Monticello Sages were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to the Pontiac Indians. The Sages have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Monticello lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sarah Cresap, who went 6 for 10 to rack up 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Weidner, who posted 11 points along with eight assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Monticello smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Pontiac, their win bumped their record up to 12-15.

Monticello has already played their next match, a 50-22 victory against Urbana on the 4th. As for Pontiac, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-42 win against Rantoul on the 6th.
