Freeman piles up the points against Newport

Recap: Freeman Scotties vs. Newport Grizzlies

The Freeman Scotties had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Newport 57-14 on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-4.

Taylee Phelps was her usual excellent self, going 7 for 15 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 1 assist. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Freeman's points. Another player making a difference was Rylee Russell, who scored six points along with seven assists and four steals.

The win got Freeman back to even at 9-9. As for Newport, their defeat was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeman won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Riverside at 4:15 p.m. on January 27th. Riverside will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Freeman is ranked 114th). As for Newport, Newport and Colville will face off at 5:45 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
