Softball Recap: Valencia Drops Season-High Score on Calvary Chapel

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valencia). They blew past the Calvary Chapel Eagles 21-7 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Valencia got a massive performance out of Sophia Avina, who went 4-for-6 with five runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those five runs gave Avina a new career-high. Rihanna Smith was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances.

Valencia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .488. They are 4-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win (which was Valencia's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Calvary Chapel, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-10.

Valencia will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Anaheim at 3:15 p.m. on the 21st. As for Calvary Chapel, they will face off against Capistrano Valley Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
