Sartell-St. Stephen gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Sabres haven't had any issues with the Storm recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Marni Koosmann made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Koosmann was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Kennedy Lewis was a standout: she scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Reese Koosmann, who scored three runs and stole two bases.

Sauk Rapids-Rice is on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Sauk Rapids-Rice will face off against Osseo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Sartell-St. Stephen will be paying especially close attention to the Storm's match: after the Storm faces off against Brainerd, they'll take on Sartell-St. Stephen again at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
