Softball Game Preview: Paxon School For Advanced Studies Golden Eagles vs. Wakulla War Eagles

The Paxon School For Advanced Studies Golden Eagles will face off against the Wakulla War Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Paxon School For Advanced Studies is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.

Paxon School For Advanced Studies is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Suwannee, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Eagles have posted since March 25th.

Meanwhile, Wakulla never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against West Florida as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The War Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.

Not much got past Charley Butler, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep West Florida off the board. Butler has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wakulla let Jenna Cross and Cylie Long run wild. Cross went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Long got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Cross has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Austin, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Wakulla is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Paxon School For Advanced Studies, their victory bumped their record up to 19-5.

Paxon School For Advanced Studies came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakulla when the teams last played back in May of 2021, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
