Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Mojave Rattlers

Cheyenne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Mojave Rattlers 75-27. While losing is never fun, the Desert Shields can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Rattlers are ranked sixth).

Cheyenne's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Phoenix Dalton, who posted six points and four steals. Kelvin Glover was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

Mojave got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was C.J. Shaw out in front who went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points and four steals. Shaw has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last eight times he's played. Chewy Williams also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Cheyenne's defeat dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Mojave, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

Cheyenne has already played their next match (against Clark), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mojave will take on Arbor View at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Arbor View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 24 games -- so hopefully Mojave likes a good challenge.
