Soccer Game Preview: Carbondale vs. Carterville

The Carbondale Terriers will take on the Carterville Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Carbondale had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least four goals, but Marion put an end to it on Friday. The Terriers lost 7-1 to the Wildcats. Carbondale's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Their goal came courtesy of Sara Schurz, who's now up to 35 this season.

Meanwhile, Carterville kept a clean sheet against Massac County on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 8-0 win. Considering Carterville have won eight matches by more than three goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Carterville's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 34 goals over those five games. As for Carbondale, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-7.

Carbondale took their victory against Carterville when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 4-0 score. Do the Terriers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
