Basketball Recap: Piedmont Academy Comes Up Short

Piedmont Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 52-37 fall against the Westfield School Hornets. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Piedmont Academy still got an impressive performance from Sarah Ellen Stroud, who posted 21 points. The matchup was Stroud's third in a row with at least 21 points.

Piedmont Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Westfield School, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Piedmont Academy will head out to challenge Gatewood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' defense better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 53 points per game this season. As for Westfield School, they will head out on the road to square off against Southland Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so the Hornets' offense will have their work cut out for them.
