Basketball Recap: Central Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Orange Lutheran, Central was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They slipped by the Vincent Memorial Scots 59-58. The Spartans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Scots, too.

Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Tovar, who went 7 for 17 en route to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Tovar's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daimaggio Wyatt, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Despite the loss, Vincent Memorial still got an impressive performance from JoseCarlos Acosta, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. With that strong performance, Acosta is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Gael Villavicencio was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Central's record now sits at 10-7. As for Vincent Memorial, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will venture away from home to challenge Calipatria at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season. As for Vincent Memorial, they are taking a road trip to face off against Calexico at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd.
