Preview: Avon Orioles vs. Lawrence Central Bears
The Avon Orioles will head out on the road to face off against the Lawrence Central Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Avon has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Lawrence Central will arrive with 17 straight victories.
Last Friday, Avon lost to Fishers at home by a decisive 66-50 margin. While losing is never fun, Avon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Fishers is ranked 13th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Makaylee Butts, who scored 11 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Wren, who scored eight points.
Even though Lawrence Central has not done well against Warren Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Lawrence Central took down Warren Central 56-42.
Avon dropped their record down to 8-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Lawrence Central, their victory bumped their record up to 22-1.
Avon took their victory against Lawrence Central when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 85-61. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avon since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
