Softball Recap: Hamilton Comes Up Short

Hamilton dropped their record down to 5-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 10-0 to the Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on Friday.

As for Elkhart Christian Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

For Elkhart Christian Academy's part, not much got past Naomi Herbster, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Hamilton off the board. Herbster has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brianna Ehninger was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Ryleigh Viront was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Hamilton and Elkhart Christian Academy are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Marines will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fremont at 6:00 p.m. on the 27th. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they will face off against Westview at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
