Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Fort Frye

After only 14 points in their last contest, Fort Frye made sure to put some points up on the board against Parkersburg Catholic on Saturday. The Fort Frye Cadets came out on top against the Parkersburg Catholic Crusaders by a score of 55-42. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cadets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 545th in Ohio, while the Crusaders are ranked 97th in West Virginia).

Parkersburg Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Carter Nelson, who went 6 for 13 en route to 15 points. Leonardo DeAngelo also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Fort Frye moved to 5-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Parkersburg Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Fort Frye has already played their next matchup (against Meigs), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Parkersburg Catholic will welcome Williamstown at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Williamstown knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Parkersburg Catholic likes a good challenge.
