Baseball Recap: South Hadley Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but South Hadley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past the Easthampton/Hampshire Eagles 5-4. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 3-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Matt Butler spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Belsky, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Camren Carpenter also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

South Hadley now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Easthampton/Hampshire, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Hadley will venture away from home to take on Northbridge at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Easthampton/Hampshire, they will head out to challenge Westfield Technical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
