Volleyball Recap: Gretna Dragons vs. Gretna East Griffins

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Skutt Catholic, Gretna was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Gretna East Griffins by a score of 3-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Dragons also won the last time the pair played last Tuesday.

Gretna had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-19.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gretna to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lily Zimmerman, who had 19 digs. Zimmerman is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Nowling, who had 12 digs.

Gretna was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October.

Maggie Williams and Halle Nienaber certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Williams had nine digs, while Nienaber had 11 digs.

Gretna has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 25-17 record this season. As for Gretna East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 27-10.

Gretna will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Skutt Catholic at 9:00 a.m. Skutt Catholic will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Gretna surely won't give up without a fight. Gretna East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
