Basketball Recap: Portage Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Portage and Valparaiso squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Portage had to settle for second. They were dealt a 62-22 defeat at the hands of the Valparaiso Vikings. The Indians have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Kelis Scott was Portage's leading scorer, having posted six points. Sarie Bond held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Olivia Gonzalez took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Valparaiso's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lillian Barnes, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 steals. The contest was Barnes' seventh in a row with at least 15 points. Cadynce Clark was another key player, going 7 for 15 to rack up 19 points.

Portage's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Valparaiso, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Portage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Valparaiso, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 33-26 victory against Chesterton on the 8th.
