Football Game Preview: Speedway Sparkplugs vs. Covenant Christian Warriors

Speedway is on an eight-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Covenant Christian a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Speedway Sparkplugs will look to defend their home field against the Covenant Christian Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Speedway has given up an average of 40.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Speedway is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Indian Creek on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Sparkplugs were beaten by the Braves 42-7. The Sparkplugs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Covenant Christian). They took down Greenwood Christian Academy 37-20 on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Speedway better keep an eye on Henry Schafer. He was instrumental in Covenant Christian's win, rushing for 245 yards and four scores while picking up 11.1 yards per carry.

Covenant Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 452 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Speedway's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Covenant Christian, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-6.

Everything came up roses for Speedway against Covenant Christian in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 29-0 victory. Do the Sparkplugs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
