Basketball Recap: Decatur Drops Season-High Score on Kentlake

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Decatur). Everything went their way against the Kentlake Falcons on Friday as the Decatur Golden Gators made off with a 77-55 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Golden Gators have posted since February 2, 2024.

Decatur had a senior duo take command as Jorge Martinez went 7 for 11 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and five boards and Dar Mcjimpson Jr went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 25 points. With that strong performance, Mcjimpson Jr is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Corbett, who posted four points in addition to 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Decatur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Decatur's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Kentlake, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Decatur won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Auburn Riverside at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Auburn Riverside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. As for Kentlake, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll face off against Evergreen at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kentlake is facing Evergreen at the right time seeing as Evergreen is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
