The South San Antonio Bobcats will face off against the McCollum Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
McCollum will be up against a hot South San Antonio team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. South San Antonio never let Southwest Legacy get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Tuesday. The Bobcats' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.
Not much got past Catalina Bonilla, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Southwest Legacy off the board.
On the hitting side, South San Antonio got a massive performance out of Kendra Davila, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alexa Torres, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Davila wasn't the only one working in the hit department: South San Antonio kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, McCollum made easy work of Southside on Tuesday and carried off a 10-3 win. The Cowboys haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
RUIZ MADELYNN made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. MADELYNN was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on SORAYA TORRES, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of MARTINEZ LAUREN, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
South San Antonio pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for McCollum, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
South San Antonio took their victory against McCollum in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 6-0. Will South San Antonio repeat their success, or does McCollum has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
