Basketball Game Preview: Morton Panthers vs. Lanier Bulldogs

The Morton Panthers will square off against the Lanier Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Morton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Morton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 54-23 victory over Bay. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Lanier didn't have too much trouble with Lawrence County on Tuesday as they won 63-46. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Cougars are ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lanier is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Morton, their win bumped their record up to 19-7.

Morton came up short against Lanier in their previous meeting back in January, falling 55-44. Can Morton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
