Softball Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Lincoln Hornets

The Mount Miguel Matadors will head out to square off against the Lincoln Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mount Miguel will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Mount Miguel took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Guajome Park Academy. The victory was some much needed relief for the Matadors as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Lincoln was able to grind out a solid win over Kearny on Wednesday, taking the game 26-22. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Komets: they've now won three in a row.

Eliana Aguilar was a standout: she got on base in five of her eight plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Nyema Curtis was another key player, going 4-for-7 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles.

Lincoln kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

Lincoln's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-12. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.3 runs over those games. As for Mount Miguel, their record now sits at 6-11.

Mount Miguel suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Lincoln in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Matadors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
