The Washington Wildcats will face off against the Highland Park Scots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Washington has given up an average of 11.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Washington couldn't beat Atchison on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the first inning. The Wildcats came up short against the Phoenix, falling 18-7. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Phoenix 6-1 in the first period.
Angel Garcia-Romero and Chris Reno stepped up to the plate in a big way. Garcia-Romero went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Reno got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highland Park). Everything went their way against Northeast on Monday as they made off with a 29-2 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Scots considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Mason Foxford was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Saul Ramos-Hernadez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Highland Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Highland Park back to even at 5-5-2. As for Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
Everything went Washington's way against Highland Park in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Washington made off with a 13-3 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Scots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
