Basketball Recap: Clover Hill Comes Up Short

Clover Hill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monacan Chiefs. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Chiefs are ranked 30th).

Monacan was led to victory by Tai Bowler and Promyse Dent. Bowler almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards, while Dent went 7 for 13 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. Dekari Riley was another key player, putting up nine points.

Clover Hill's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Monacan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Clover Hill has already played their next match (against Cosby), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Monacan will look to defend their home court on Monday against Meadowbrook at 7:30 p.m. Monacan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Meadowbrook likes a good challenge.
