Baseball Recap: Apex Comes Up Short

After flying high against Green Hope last Friday, Apex came back down to earth. The Cougars fell just short of the Apex Friendship Patriots by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

DANE PURDY was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Apex saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CULLEN KLINGEMANN, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. CROSBY HOLMES also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Apex now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Apex Friendship, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-5.

While Apex had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
