Football Recap: Pima's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Pima and San Tan Charter squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Pima had to settle for second. They took a 27-9 bruising from the Roadrunners. The Roughriders were red-hot offensively heading into the matchup (they scored no less than 31 points in the three games prior), but the Roadrunners' defense proved too tough.

When it comes to explaining why Pima lost, don't look at Rooster Alder. Despite the final result, he rushed for 140 yards and one score. The Roughriders are 5-1 when Alder posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 2-4 otherwise.

San Tan Charter found their leader in sophomore Porter Smith, who rushed for 47 yards and one TD, and also caught one touchdown. Smith also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making nine total tackles.

The loss snapped Pima's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 7-5 record. As for San Tan Charter, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Pima does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for San Tan Charter, they will face off against Scottsdale Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Roadrunners 11.5, the Eagles 11.5) so any points scored will be well earned.
