Softball Recap: Clay Comes Up Short

After flying high against Menendez last Friday, Clay came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Mandarin Mustangs by a score of 8-6 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Blue Devils have suffered since March 25, 2024.

Sadie Russo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched.

At the plate, Amiah Carrubba led a balanced group of hitters, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Hamilton, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

With the defeat, Clay broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-5. As for Mandarin, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season.

Clay will take on Ridgeview at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mandarin, they will face off against Sandalwood at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
