The Sylmar Spartans will take on the South East Jaguars in a tournament on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
South East will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Sylmar extended their winning streak to four on Monday. The Spartans never let Verdugo Hills get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by eight runs or more this season.

Alex Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Rickee Luevano and Timothy Sepulveda did most of the damage at the plate: Luevano went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sepulveda went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those three hits gave Sepulveda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew Torres, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Sylmar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Verdugo Hills only posted an OBP of .067.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South East). Everything went their way against Huntington Park on Wednesday as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The Jaguars not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024 (when they won 18-0).
Not much got past Jonathan Castro, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Huntington Park off the board. Castro also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South East is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-13 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Delonte Jones, who went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. South East is 2-1 when Jones posts two or more runs, but 6-13 otherwise. Nathan Munoz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Sylmar pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average this season. As for South East, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-14.
South East's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sylmar hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for South East, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Sylmar's hitters?
