Baseball Game Preview: Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils vs. St. Clair Saints

Grosse Pointe South has won ten straight games at home, while St. Clair has won ten straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Blue Devils will host the Saints at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Grosse Pointe South 2.6, St. Clair 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While Grosse Pointe South didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Royal Oak on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won four in a row.

Jack Lupo was excellent, earning two runs and four stolen bases. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Zrimec, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, St. Clair was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They won by a run and slipped past L'Anse Creuse North 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saints have posted against the Crusaders since April 27, 2023.

Grosse Pointe South's victory bumped their record up to 14-1. As for St. Clair, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Everything went Grosse Pointe South's way against St. Clair in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Grosse Pointe South made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
