Wilson Area is 8-2 against Pen Argyl since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Green Knights at 4:00 p.m. Wilson Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Wilson Area after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Palmerton.
Wilson Area saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Coyle, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Ryan Bonham was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Pen Argyl hadn't done well against Northwestern Lehigh recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Green Knights had just enough and edged out the Tigers 5-4. That's two games straight that the Green Knights have won by just one run.
Lucas Lerch made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pen Argyl is 3-0-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Lerch was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
Pen Argyl's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wilson Area, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wilson Area has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pen Argyl struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wilson Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Pen Argyl in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Green Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
