Football Recap: Caden Hake and Trystyn Smallwood Secure Win for Dover

Dover extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 4-3. They walked away with a 28-21 victory over the Eastern York Golden Knights. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 49-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading Dover to victory were Trystyn Smallwood and Caden Hake. Smallwood rushed for 177 yards and one score, while Hake threw for 198 yards and three TDs on only 15 passes.

Another reason for the win was Dover's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for nine sacks. Darren Knight led the group effort, picking up three of those sacks all by himself. Dover is undefeated when Robmyre Borders posts one or more sacks, but 1-3 otherwise.

As for Eastern York, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-3. They gained 74 more yards on the day, but it was Dover that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Eastern York saw an underclassman step up: freshman Brady Cook picked up 143 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 143 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Cook. Eastern York also got help from Landon Allison, who showed off his sure hands for 110 receiving yards.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Dover will take on Dallastown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.57 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Eastern York, they will square off against Susquehannock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
