Basketball Recap: Delani Runnels' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Niobrara/Verdigre over Wynot

Niobrara/Verdigre has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 44-40 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wynot Blue Devils. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 57-44 to them when the teams met on Monday, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Niobrara/Verdigre lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Delani Runnels, who went 6 for 14 en route to 16 points. Eve Kucera was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Niobrara/Verdigre's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Wynot, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Niobrara/Verdigre won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Chambers/Wheeler Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wynot has already played their next game (against Ponca), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
