The Friends Select Falcons will challenge Westtown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Wednesday, Friends Select got the win against Barrack Hebrew Academy by a conclusive 7-1. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Bryson Evans was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Evans was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
Evans wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayce Fairfax, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another was Miles Lesser, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Westtown waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 17-2 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for Westtown this season.
Westtown got a massive performance out of Cooper Speacht, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Francisco Benbow was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Westtown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .703. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Westtown pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Friends Select, their record now sits at 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Friends Select has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Westtown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Friends Select came up short against Westtown in their previous meeting back in May of 2018, falling 5-1. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
