Baseball Game Preview: Newton County Academy Generals vs. Starkville Christian Cougars

The Newton County Academy Generals will face off against the Starkville Christian Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton County Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Newton County Academy lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Prentiss Christian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Generals put the hurt on the Saints with a sharp 8-1 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Steven Duke made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Jones, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Newton County Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-9 otherwise. Cooper Thrash was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Starkville Christian took on French Camp Academy on Monday. The Cougars came up short against the Panthers, falling 11-1. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Newton County Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Starkville Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
