Softball Game Preview: Leslie County Eagles vs. Owsley County Owls / Lady Owls

The Leslie County Eagles will square off against the Owsley County Owls / Lady Owls at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Leslie County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Harlan County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 6-3 to the Black Bears. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Black Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Emily Caldwell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Leslie County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Royce Osborne, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Owsley County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 21-3 to Williamsburg.

Leslie County's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Owsley County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Leslie County took their win against Owsley County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
