Softball Recap: Athens Victorious

Athens won the last time they faced Alexander and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 7-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Fern Sigmam made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Janey Lucas, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Haybron, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Athens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Athens' win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Alexander, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Athens has already played their next game, a 13-3 victory against Nelsonville-York on the 3rd. As for Alexander, they will head out on the road to challenge Meigs at 5:00 p.m. on the 10th.
