Softball Preview: Bayard Rustin Golden Knights vs. Oxford Hornets

The Bayard Rustin Golden Knights will challenge the Oxford Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bayard Rustin is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

On Thursday, Bayard Rustin needed a bit of extra time to put away Villa Maria Academy. They blew past the Hurricanes 11-5. The Golden Knights not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 31st (when they won 15-0).

Ashley Falcone made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 14 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Sarah Wood was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liv Shuffler, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Oxford's offense. They came up short against Coatesville on Tuesday, falling 13-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Oxford saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Polita, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was Polita's first of the season.

Bayard Rustin's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Oxford, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.
