Football Recap: Jasper Comes Up Short

Jasper extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They had to suffer through a 42-0 loss at the hands of Carthage. While losing is never fun, Jasper can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 440th, while Carthage is ranked 22nd).

Trevor Beatty threw for 92 yards on six of 16 attempts. Raja Garza-Adams was his top target, picking up 54 receiving yards. On the ground, Payton Brooks rushed for 52 yards.

As for Carthage, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.9 points over those games.

Jett Surratt looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 217 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes.

Jasper will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on West Orange-Stark at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th. The matchup will give the Bulldogs their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Carthage, they have already played their next contest, a 41-3 win against San Benito on the 3rd.
